OAT3 (SLC22A8)
OAT3 Transporter: SLC22A8
About OAT3
The OAT3 transporter is an organic anion uptake transporter that is encoded by the SLC22A8 gene. OAT3 is expressed in the kidney on the basal-lateral membrane of proximal tubule epithelial cells. Because it serves to take compounds into the kidney from the blood stream, OAT3 can mediate the renal elimination of these compounds.
OAT3 Substrates
OAT3 substrates include estrone-3-sulfate, p-aminohippurate, cimetidine, and furosemide.
OAT3 Inhibitors
OAT3 inhibitors include novobiocin and probenecid.
Optivia OAT3 Transporter Assays
Optivia offers OAT3 substrate and inhibition assays in the gold standard model for transport: polarized mammalian cells. We offer a wide range of studies including single concentration screens up to full kinetic studies to determine the IC50 for OAT3 inhibitors and Vmax, Km and/or IC50 for OAT3 substrates.
The probe substrate for the Optivia OAT3 assay is estrone-3-sulfate. Probenecid is the reference inhibitor. These serve as the positive controls for the OAT3 substrate assays and the OAT3 inhibition assays, respectively.
