OCT2 (SLC22A2)
OCT2 Transporter: SLC22A2
About OCT2
The OCT2 transporter is an organic cation uptake transporter that is encoded by the SLC22A2 gene. OCT2 is expressed in the kidney on the basal-lateral membrane of proximal tubule epithelial cells. Because it serves to take substrates from the blood stream into the kidney, OCT2 can mediate the renal elimination of these compounds.
OCT2 Substrates
OCT2 substrates include metformin, pindolol, procainamide, ranitidine and varenicline.
OCT2 Inhibitors
OCT2 inhibitors include quinidine, cimetidine and testosterone.
Optivia OCT2 Transporter Assays
Optivia offers OCT2 substrate and inhibition assays in the gold standard model for transport: polarized mammalian cells. We offer a wide range of studies including single concentration screens up to full kinetic studies to determine the IC50 for OCT2 inhibitors and Vmax, Km and/or IC50 for OCT2 substrates.
The probe substrate for the Optivia OCT2 assay is metformin. Quinidine is the reference inhibitor. These serve as the positive controls for the OCT2 substrate assays and the OCT2 inhibition assays, respectively.
